A

cent a Square Foot about $191.35; and two lots comprising a

small temple and one house, valued by the owner at $200. If

the Naval Authorities allow the temple and house to remain on

an annual lease (they are situated on Crown Land and have

paid no taxes), compensation will be payable on the cultivated

land only. The rest of the land in the Peninsula is Crown Land,

and is hilly and of little value at present. The fact that

it may hereafter increase in value as the development of the

New Territory progresses, is fully recognised, but this Govern-

ment is anxious to meet the requirements of the Naval Authori-

ties in this matter, as in all cases where Imperial interests

are involved, and I recommend that the grant may be sanctioned

on the usual condition that the land rovert to the Colony free

of charge upon its ceasing to be used for the purpose for

which it is granted, and on the additional understanding that

it shall not be transferred by the Admiralty to any other

Department without the previous consent of this Government.

I understand that it will entirely satisfy the requirements

of the Naval Authorities in Mirs Bay and that they will de-

mand no further exclusive privileges in the neighbourhood of

Long Harbour beyond the reservation of the new Man-of-War

Anchorage described in the first enclosure to this Despatch.

No further action, therefore, need be taken in respect of the

much larger area indicated as a proposed Naval Reserve in the

enclosure to your predecessor's Despatch under reference.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Аглаза

Officer

Administering the Government.
